  45. help us celebrate 25 years of AMSAT in Space.  Share your experience with

  47. ing, formatting, graphics and even typing can be provided.  Even if you
  48. cannot attend, please consider a paper for publication.

  78. KARL O. "K. O." LEARNER II, K9PVW, SK
  79.  
  80. An old friend to many in the amateur satellite world and long-time AMSAT
  81. member, "K.O." LEARNER II (K9PVW) became a Silent Key (SK) recently.  "K.O"
  82. died on 16-May-94 at his home in Kokomo, Indiana.  He was 49.  For many
  83. years, "K.O." organized the AMSAT booth and programs at Dayton, worked
  84. tirelessly as an AMSAT area coordinator, and ran a local AMSAT Net.  Also,
  85. many will remember him as the Net Control Station for what is today known
  86. as the "OPS Nets" in the early days of AO-13.  "K.O."  worked as an engin-
  87. eer for Delco Electronics in Kokomo.  AMSAT-NA Headquarters wishes to
  88. express its condolences to "K.O's" family and friends and will remember him
  89. as a patient "ELMER" to many beginners trying to make their first contacts
  90. on the OSCARS.

  104. DOVE-OSCAR-17 (DO-17) Status Report
  105.  
  106. On 25-MAY-94 at 05:25 UTC  the DOVE Ground Command Team started loading and
  107. executing test software designed to assure the operation of the voice
  108. module after several months of dormancy.  A brief test of the voice cap-
  109. ability generated only garbled voice, so it was turned off.   The Team is
  110. now investigating possible causes, and at this point believe it is a soft-
  111. ware problem, not hardware.
  112.  
  113. For the next few days DOVE may be in various modes as the Team continues
  114. testing and/or loading new software.  The S-band transmitter will remain
  115. off.  Telemetry reports are not needed at this time.

  130. Official LUSAT-OSCAR-19 (LO-19) Status Report
  131.  
  132. The satellite LUSAT-1 (LO-19) appears to be healthy.  The software load was
  133. intentionally stopped when the second module was just loaded and turned on.
  134. The next step will be to continue with the satellite's deep tests.  The
  135. satellite is sending telemetry on 437.125 MHz and its digipeater is turned
  136. on for now.  To All Overseas Stations: If you have captured any LUSAT-1
  137. telemetry you are requested to send the "raw" telemetry to the satellite
  138. control station and you will receive a certificate for your efforts. These
  139. tele-metry reports can be sent either via packet radio to:
  140. LU8DYF@LU8DYF.BA.ARG.SOAM and LU8DYF@ANY-ACTIVE-SATELLITE, or via Internet
  141. to: lu8dyf@asarin.org.ar
  142.

  183. AO-16: AO-16 is chugging along, the only 1200 baud BBS bird running.  [WH6I]

  185. LO-19: LO-19 is undergoing re-uploading of software.  The ground
  186.        controllers state that it will not be available for general use for
  187.        about a month. [WH6I]

  189. IO-26: IO-26 is also in the software uploading process.  Apparently both
  190.        birds, i.e., LO-19 & IO-26, suffered SEUs at about the same time.

  193. MIR: MIR'S BBS is up and running.  It seems that whatever electrical power
  194. problems they were experiencing aboard MIR have now been sorted out.
  195. ZR5JRS has worked the MIR BBS on a number of occassions over the last week
  196. with only a few problems.  The only problem he has experienced is with
  197. users down-range that do not send the disconnect command before MIR goes
  198. LOS at their QTH.  If a several users forget to send the disconnect, ZR5JRS
  199. find that nobody can not get in since the BBS has not yet given a time out.
  200. Please don't forget to send a disconnect command before MIR goes "over-the-

  203. RS-10\11: This satellite, as usual, is working extremely well and ZR5JRS
  204. has made many contacts throughout Southern Africa with good 599 signals.
  205. ZR5JRS notes that it is very pleasant to see a small but revived interest
  206. in RS-10 in South Africa.  He hopes that it will last.

  209. KO-23: Some new earth images are now showing up on KO-23's BBS.  WH6I notes
  210. that so far none of the images he has looked are very spectacular.  [WH6I]

  240. DOVE-OSCAR-17 (DOVE) Voice Synthesizer Now Being Tested
  241.  
  242. The satellite is now speaking the phrase "HI, this is DOVE in space" for
  243. one minute of every four minutes.  "HI" has been traditionally sent from
  244. Amateur satellites since OSCAR-1, so it seemed appropriate for this re-
  245. activation of the voice synthesizer in DO-17.  The team will continue to
  246. work on improvements, including possibly raising the amplitude of the
  247. voice, which is presently about 1/2 that of the telemetry.
  248.  
  249. The speech software has been completely reloaded over the past 3 days.  The
  250. S-band transmitter is presently turned off.  Transmitter power will be
  251. optimized over the next few days while maintaining a positive power budget.
  252. Reception reports are welcome and please send them to PY2BJO.  Telemetry is
  253. not needed at this time.

  269. Official LUSAT-OSCAR-19 Status Report
  270.  
  271. On 01-JUN-1994, during orbit #22739, the CW beacon was turned back on.
  272. This operation was performed by the control station of Norberto Pennini
  273. (LU8DYF) and by the station in charge of the CW beacon, Ruben Ferreiro
  274. (LU6DYD).
  275.  
  276. At the same time, LU8DYF, turned OFF the "B" transmitter (437.125 MHz) and
  277. turned ON the "A" transmitter (437.150 MHz).  While this procedure was
  278. happening place, LU6DYD was capturing some telemetry.  Then, when LU8DYF
  279. finally swapped the transmitters, and LU8DYD sent the necessary "pseudo-
  280. random" (PN) command sequence which subsequently turned on the CW beacon.
  281. After more than 9 months of being turned off, the CW beacon was started
  282. up again without any problems.
  283.  
  284. On 02-JUN-94, during orbit #22754, the CW beacon was turned OFF.  This
  285. operation was again performed by LU8DYF and LU6DYD.  LU6DYD turned OFF the
  286. CW beacon and LU8DYF agained swapped the two transmitters to be sure they
  287. were both working properly.  At the present time, the CW beacon is present-
  288. ly OFF and the "B" Raised Cosine PSK transmitter (437.125 MHz) is now ON.
  289.  
  290. The LUSAT-1 Recovery Team encourages those stations that have collected
  291. telemetry reports during this period to send them to LU8DYF for analyses
  292. purposes.
  293.  
  294. Overseas stations: If you capture any LUSAT-1 telemetry and send the
  295. "raw" satellite telemetry  to the satellite control station, you will
  296. receive a certificate for your help.  These telemetry reports can be sent
  297. either via packet radio to LU8DYF@LU8DYF.BA.ARG.SOAM and LU8DYF@ANY-ACTIVE-
  298. SATELLITE, or via Internet to: lu8dyf@asarin.org.ar
  299.  
  300. If you intend to use the satellite, please remember that the BBS is NOT
